The government of Riviera Maya, QR, has launched a dedicated hotline for potential real estate buyers to verify property information before making any financial commitments. This hotline will provide information on property titles registered in the Public Registry of Property and Commerce.
The hotline is managed by staff from the Agency for Strategic Projects of the State of Quintana Roo (Agepro), the organization tasked with registering property titles. This service is designed to assist anyone seeking advice and information on legal certainty when acquiring land or property within the state.
Agepro states that the service aims to protect the rights of Quintana Roo families and prevent potential fraud during property purchases. José Alberto Alonso Ovando, the director-general of Agepro, emphasized the importance of citizens having access to the necessary information to protect their assets.
He said, "With this hotline, we aim to strengthen legal security in property purchases and ensure every Quintana Roo family has the legal certainty they deserve. Our priority is to provide clear and timely advice to prevent fraud and ensure orderly and fair urban development."
The state agency strongly encourages people to verify that properties for sale have the appropriate municipal and state permits before proceeding with a transaction. Purchasing land without the necessary permits is a crime under articles 268 and 269 of the Criminal Code of the State of Quintana Roo, punishable by 4 to 12 years in prison.
The public is warned about the risk of fraud when buying land under the assumption that they have a permit issued by the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu). Alonso Ovando asserts that the only guarantee of legal security is a property title duly registered in the Public Registry of Property and Commerce, which is managed by Agepro.
Prospective real estate buyers can obtain information about registered property titles in the state of Quintana Roo by calling or sending a WhatsApp message to 983 184 0860. The hotline is available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for inquiries about land or properties in the state.
