Cancún, Quintana Roo — The start of the year in sports in Cancún will feature one of its main events, the boxing function called New Generation Boxing Championship, to be held this Saturday, January 24, starting at 7:00 PM with completely free access at the emblematic Parque de las Palapas in the city’s first cuadro. The event will have national and international television coverage through TUDN and VIX.
In this function, a total of 12 fights will be presented, of which seven will be professional, plus another five of an amateur character, which will serve to warm up the atmosphere.
The Saturday card will be led by Cancún native Celex Castro, who will also command a contingent of six Quintana Roo boxers, as Ricardo “Pichi” Salgado (Cozumel), Luis “Pichi Jr.” Salgado (Cozumel), José Julian Hernández (Puerto Morelos), Ricardo “Aguerrido” González (Felipe Carrillo Puerto), Alexis Aguilar (Playa del Carmen), and debutant Jonathan Regalado (Cancún) will also step into the ring.
It should be noted that the setup of the boxing stage at Parque de las Palapas will begin on Friday, January 23 in the morning, without affecting the daily activity of the businesses.
Regarding the main event, which will be ten rounds in the Super Bantamweight division, Cancún’s Region 96 native Celex Castro (21-0-0, 15KO) will defend his undefeated record against Mochitlán’s José “Koruco” Flores (8-3-0, 7KO), who has three losses in eight fights.
Incidentally, the activities surrounding this function will also begin on Friday, January 23 with the medical check and weigh-in ceremony, which will be at 12:00 PM at the BOA Sports Bar in Puerto Cancún with public access.
