Playa del Carmen, Mexico — In a bid to establish itself as a premier national and international tourist destination, the Third Ordinary Session of the Municipal Gastronomic Committee marked a milestone in the planning of the 2025 Gastronomic and Cultural Calendar. The session, held at the restaurant La Perla Pixán Cuisine & Mezcal Store, brought together authorities, chefs, academics, and tourism representatives to outline strategies that strengthen local identity and stimulate the region’s economy.
A Collaborative Vision for Tourism
Presided over by Municipal Tourism Secretary Estefanía Hernández, representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, the event fostered collaboration between the public and private sectors. Hernández emphasized that “Playa del Carmen’s gastronomy is more than an attraction: it is a living expression of our identity, our roots, and our vision for the future.” This approach aims not only to attract tourists but also to cultivate a sense of community pride.
Key Initiatives and Events
A central focus of the meeting was the creation of a strategic calendar integrating culinary festivals, artistic showcases, and tourism-focused cultural activities. Among the confirmed events are the Jocho Festival, “Patriotic Month: September”, and “October Fest”, organized in collaboration with the German Consulate. Other highlights include the exhibition “La Gran Catrina Vizcaya”.
Additionally, the “Apapaxoa, Cultura Xcaret” festival was announced, scheduled for August 26–31. The event will feature international chefs and activities blending gastronomy, art, and tradition.
