MÉRIDA, Yucatán — The north of Mérida has gained a new self-service shopping alternative with the recent opening of a Fresko store, part of the La Comer chain. Located on 60th Street North, next to the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, the supermarket has begun operations in one of the areas experiencing the greatest commercial and residential growth in the Yucatecan capital.
A Focus on Fresh and Gourmet Offerings
The establishment is now open and serving the public, joining the sector's commercial offerings which have seen marked expansion in recent years alongside new residential developments, service centers, and cultural spaces.
Fresko is a supermarket format belonging to the La Comer group, characterized by offering high-quality fresh products. This is especially evident in sections for fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and prepared foods, alongside a gourmet section aimed primarily at middle and upper-middle socioeconomic consumers.
Expansion of a Specialized Format
The Fresko concept originally emerged in 2009 within the former Comercial Mexicana. It was later integrated into La Comer's expansion strategy after the group's restructuring in 2016, consolidating itself as one of the most specialized formats in Mexico's self-service sector.
Typical Fresko stores operate in spaces ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 square meters. Their design is geared toward quick and weekly shopping, prioritizing the consumer experience in areas dedicated to fresh products, prepared foods, and specialized sections.
Part of a Dynamic Commercial Corridor
The new Mérida supermarket is part of a commercial corridor that has gained relevance in the city's north, where important shopping centers, real estate developments, and urban facilities are concentrated, transforming the area's profile in recent years.
Aspects distinguishing this type of establishment include the organization of specialized areas such as fishmongers, meat counters, bakeries, imported products, household goods sections, as well as departments for perfumery, groceries, and domestic technology.
Meeting Local Demand and Reflecting Regional Growth
The store's arrival represents a new supply option for northern Mérida residents, who now have a supermarket focused on quality fresh products and a diversified offer aimed at meeting daily consumption needs.
With this opening, the commercial sector of the Yucatecan capital continues to expand, reflecting the economic dynamism and urban growth that has characterized Mérida in recent years. This is particularly true in its northern zone, where some of the state's most important residential and commercial developments are concentrated.
The opening also confirms the La Comer group's expansion strategy in cities with high population growth and economic activity, as is currently the case in the Yucatecan capital.
