Quintana Roo, Mexico — A total of 49 people were admitted to hospitals with gunshot wounds in Quintana Roo during epidemiological week 39, a figure that represents an increase compared to the 20 cases registered the previous week. With these numbers, the state placed as the seventh state with the highest incidence during week 39, according to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System.
The cumulative total for 2025 of firearm wounds in Quintana Roo has risen to 1,432 cases, of which 1,040 correspond to men and 392 to women. The 49 admissions recorded during week 39 are included in that total, which reflects cases treated up to epidemiological week 38 of the current year.
Regional Totals for the Yucatán Peninsula
The broader Yucatán Peninsula has tallied a total of 2,357 people who suffered attacks with firearms so far this year.
In Campeche, the same bulletin reports an accumulated 321 people injured by firearms, distributed as 239 men and 82 women. For its part, Yucatán counts 604 total cases, with 475 men and 129 women included in that data cut.
Summing the three states of the peninsula, there is a total of 2,357 accumulated cases: 1,754 men and 603 women.
Quintana Roo Leads in Regional Incidence
Within this total, Quintana Roo concentrates 60.8 percent of the peninsular total, followed by Yucatán with 25.6 percent and Campeche with 13.6 percent. The comparison between the three states shows that Quintana Roo has approximately 2.37 times more cases than Yucatán and 4.46 times more than Campeche.
This difference remains constant in the accumulated totals by sex, as in each state men represent the majority of cases treated for gunshot wounds. Based on the bulletin data, men concentrate 74.4 percent of firearm injuries in the peninsula, while women represent 25.6 percent. In all three states, the records reflect a greater exposure of the male population to this type of incident, according to the official information.
Homicide and Injury Statistics
Separately, from January to August, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System reported that there were 17 intentional homicides with a firearm in Quintana Roo, while 289 intentional injuries with the same type of weapon were reported.
The available data allows for the observation that Quintana Roo continues to be the state with the most cases in the region, both in absolute numbers and in proportion of the peninsular total.
