Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A municipal police officer was found dead inside his home this afternoon in the El Edén Plus neighborhood, with authorities preliminarily attributing the death to suicide by hanging.
Incident Details
According to official reports, the discovery was made around 7:00 p.m. after family members alerted authorities. The residence is located at the intersection of Rascón 7 and Rascón 2 streets.
The officer’s body was found lying on the floor. Unofficial accounts indicate a rope was suspended above him, suggesting he may have hanged himself. Paramedics arriving at the scene confirmed the individual showed no signs of life.
Police cordoned off the area while forensic personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office conducted procedures for the removal of the body.
Official Response
The Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security expressed deep regret over the officer’s death in a social media statement. Preliminary evidence points to suicide, though the circumstances remain under investigation.
“The department is providing full support to the family, including emotional and administrative assistance during this difficult time,” the statement read.
