Municipal Ballet Folklórico Presents ‘For You Quintana Roo’ at City Theater

Dancers from the Municipal Ballet Folklórico performing traditional dances on stage

Cancún, Quintana Roo — As carnival celebrations fill the streets, the City Theater stage will host a tribute to cultural roots this weekend.

The Municipal Ballet Folklórico presents “For You Quintana Roo,” a performance celebrating the state’s diverse cultural heritage through traditional dance.

Mayapax, Jarana and Trova: Living Roots on Stage

The program offers a choreographic journey through Quintana Roo’s traditions, featuring the spiritual Mayapax dance, the nostalgic trova music of Isla Mujeres, Chetumal dance, the first jarana dedicated specifically to Quintana Roo as a symbol of identity, and the Dzambay dance among other pieces that explore movement, music, and cultural belonging.

Each segment honors the communities that have shaped the state’s multicultural character, demonstrating how dance is not just performed but inherited, transformed, and shared across generations.

The free performance takes place Sunday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Theater. Tickets will be available starting two hours before the show.
