Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A 41-year-old mototaxi driver died Thursday afternoon after a collision at the intersection of Avenida 125 and Paseo Central.
Preliminary reports say the mototaxi was traveling east to west on Paseo Central when it reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the through road, where a red Volkswagen Jetta traveling on Avenida 125 struck it on the left side.
Civil Protection paramedics treated the mototaxi driver and took him to a general hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Jetta, a 16-year-old, was also injured and taken to the IMSS General Hospital Zone 18. Two passengers in the mototaxi received medical assistance from ERUM paramedics with the Secretariat of Citizen Security and were transported to the same hospital.
Traffic investigators arrived at the scene to determine responsibility for the crash.
