Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Cancun Hotel Zone Crash After Bus Swerve
Cancun, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist was critically injured Thursday afternoon after losing control of his bike on Boulevard Kukulcan near the Cancun Theater, prompting a major emergency response and snarling traffic for over an hour.
According to initial reports, the rider was heading toward downtown when he lost control and fell onto the pavement. Witnesses said a public transit bus suddenly changed lanes, forcing the motorcyclist to brake hard, which caused him to crash. The bus driver reportedly fled the scene.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, according to witnesses, and suffered a severe blow to the head, possibly a skull fracture.
Tourist police officers and paramedics from Life ambulance service arrived after a 911 call and provided first aid. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was rushed to a hospital.
Traffic officers conducted an investigation and ordered the motorcycle towed to an impound lot.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and searching for the bus driver identified by witnesses.
