Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist died Saturday night after a violent rear-end collision on Federal Highway 307 between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, authorities reported.

The crash occurred near kilometer 265, directly in front of the Catalonia Hotel south of Puerto Aventuras. A private car struck the motorcycle from behind, throwing the rider several meters onto the pavement and causing immediately life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but it proved insufficient to withstand the force of impact with the asphalt. Paramedics arrived minutes later but could only confirm the man had no vital signs due to the fatal injuries sustained.

National Guard officers from the Highway Division cordoned off the crash site and coordinated traffic flow along the busy roadway to prevent further incidents. Authorities detained the car’s driver at the scene and turned him over to the State Prosecutor’s Office to determine legal responsibility.

Forensic experts from the prosecutor’s office conducted an investigation and removed the body for transfer to the medical examiner’s service. The vehicles involved were towed to an impound lot.
