Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A mother from Mexico City traveled to this coastal resort town Thursday night after locating her missing son, who has an active Amber Alert from the State of Mexico, prompting a major police response in the Xcacel neighborhood.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Privada Ostión, where the mother, identified as Angélica Viveros Gómez, told authorities her son was possibly staying in an apartment at that location.
Municipal police officers and staff from the local DIF family services agency responded to the scene, with DIF president Eduardo Asencio also arriving to monitor the situation.
Speaking to reporters, Viveros Gómez said she traveled on her own from Mexico City after getting no results from authorities in her home state. She stated she has legal custody of the child and that there is an active complaint for child abduction along with the Amber Alert.
“I just want to see that my son is okay,” the mother said, adding that she hasn’t had contact with the boy for over a year.
According to preliminary information, local officials entered the private street to speak with residents of the identified property, but authorities have not officially confirmed whether they located the child.
The woman maintained that officials in Playa del Carmen told her the case falls under the jurisdiction of the State of Mexico, while she claims authorities there have not provided the necessary cooperation for the search.
The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office has not issued an official statement about the case or possible coordination with their counterparts in the State of Mexico.
