José María Morelos, Quintana Roo — A mother has publicly accused two hospitals in Mérida, Yucatan, of refusing specialized psychiatric care for her daughter because the family comes from the neighboring state of Quintana Roo.
María Celia Mukul Sansores said her daughter was denied treatment at both the Hospital Psiquiátrico Yucatán and the Hospital O’Horán in Mérida. She made the allegations during a public event in José María Morelos, Quintana Roo.
“They told me she should be at the psychiatric hospital to receive treatment,” Mukul Sansores said. “The problem is I don’t have the resources right now to take my daughter to Mérida.”
The mother explained that her daughter is currently hospitalized in José María Morelos but is only receiving sedatives to keep her calm. She said she plans to take her daughter back to Mérida despite the financial challenges.
Mukul Sansores said she earns little from her job and her husband, a construction worker, is currently unemployed. She has appealed to the public for financial assistance to cover the costs of transporting her daughter to Mérida for proper psychiatric care.
