Tulum, Quintana Roo — Attackers on a motorcycle threw Molotov cocktails into a secondary school in Tulum on Wednesday afternoon, but no students were injured, school officials said.
The individuals, wearing uniforms from another secondary school, targeted Zamná Secondary School, according to the school’s director, Azael Nahuat. The homemade incendiary devices landed near trees and were quickly extinguished by maintenance staff, posing no direct risk to students who remained in their classrooms.
Teachers activated internal protocols and evacuated students from the area, while police officers arrived to secure the scene. Parents were notified by the school administration, with some arriving to pick up their children.
State education authorities, including the Quintana Roo Educational Services liaison, were informed and established communication with Elda Xix Euán. A meeting with parents was held later that day to explain the incident and outline preventive security measures for the school.
Director Nahuat emphasized that the incident should not be interpreted as an attack but as an isolated event under investigation. He also announced that, on orders from Public Security Secretary Edgar Aguilar Rico, the school will receive preventive police patrols starting Thursday and continuing for the coming days.
