Missing Quintana Roo Education Official Found Alive in Cancún

Reynaldo Miguel Sebastián, a Quintana Roo education official and Morena founder who was reported missing and later found alive in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Reynaldo Miguel Sebastián, who directs planning for the Quintana Roo Education Secretariat (SEQ) in the state’s northern zone, was found alive in Cancún on the night of Thursday, Oct. 8, local authorities confirmed.

The 53-year-old official had been reported missing two days earlier, on Wednesday, Oct. 7. News of his whereabouts first spread on social media through a colleague, who said he was already back with his family.

The Quintana Roo Missing Persons Search Commission later officially confirmed his location and thanked the public for helping circulate the alert.

Neither the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) nor local authorities have said how or where he was found, or what led to his disappearance.

Political Career

Beyond his administrative role at the SEQ, Miguel Sebastián is known as a founder and organizer of the Morena party in Quintana Roo.

In the days before he went missing, he had been posting messages on digital platforms seeking support from party members ahead of Morena’s internal selection process. He was seeking a federal congressional candidacy for District 3 and coordinating the party’s “defense of the transformation” efforts in that district.
