Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Playa del Carmen have located a 13-year-old girl who had been reported missing since January, ending a four-month search for the teenager. The adolescent had lost contact with her mother on January 30, prompting an investigation by local and state agencies.
Investigation Leads to Recovery
The Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) of Playa del Carmen confirmed that the girl was found following an operation at a residence in the Pescadores neighborhood, a location provided by her mother during the investigation. The Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig) coordinated with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Missing Persons to execute the search.
Upon being located, the teenager received immediate psychological first aid, as did her mother. Legal counseling and specialized support were also provided by the SSC. The Directorate of Participation and Crime Prevention (DPPNNAF) and the Directorate of Family Care were enlisted to ensure ongoing psychological monitoring for the minor.
Background of the Case
In January 2025, the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) issued 121 missing persons alerts statewide, 33 of which were for Playa del Carmen. Among these, 25 involved underage girls. The recovered teenager’s case was one of the unresolved disappearances in the region.
After medical evaluation, the girl was transferred to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Missing Persons, where her formal presentation was recorded, and procedures began to deactivate her missing persons alert.

The discovery comes amid heightened concerns over public safety in Quintana Roo, where violent incidents and disappearances have drawn scrutiny. Earlier this year, the FGE reported a surge in missing persons cases, particularly involving minors.
