During the construction of the Mayan Train, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), a branch of the Ministry of Culture of the Mexican Government, successfully preserved two intricately designed and colored stucco sidewalks. These were discovered in Front 2 of Section 7, the stretch of the project that extends from Chetumal, in Quintana Roo, to Escárcega, in Campeche.
The pair of architectural elements was unearthed on December 18, 2023, 73 kilometers from the city of Chetumal. The excavation took place near the access road to the village of Tres Garantías and close to the Archaeological Zone of Chakanbakán. The sidewalks were found within the monument labeled T7_35070, which according to the excavation coordinator, Ramón Enrique Carrillo Sánchez, dates back to the Late Classic period (600-900 AD).

Upon completion of the restoration, it is anticipated that the sidewalks will be displayed in a museum. The monument from which they were extracted will be fully relocated to ensure its preservation.
