Mexico City, Mexico — The Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, recently presented progress on the implementation of the National Strategy for Strengthening Magical Towns. This initiative aims to position these destinations not only as tourist attractions but also as engines of sustainable local development, aligning with the directives of the federal government led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

A Five-Pillar Approach

The strategy is built on five fundamental pillars: sustainability, infrastructure, professionalization, promotion and marketing. It has successfully completed the technical data collection process across all 177 Magical Towns in Mexico. This milestone establishes robust records that will facilitate the implementation of public policies aimed at improving the quality of tourism offerings and fostering community well-being.

Strategic Partnerships and Digital Transformation

A key aspect of the strategy involves forming alliances with institutions such as BBVA, VISA, and México Desconocido to strengthen financial inclusion and promote the digitization of tourism services. These collaborations are expected to significantly advance banking access and service provider training, which is crucial for the economic growth of these communities.

Innovative Initiatives to Boost Tourism

The strategy has also introduced innovative programs, including the "Magical Color Routes" and a National Sports Tourism Policy. The former seeks to revitalize the visual appeal of destinations through artistic interventions on building facades, while the latter diversifies tourism offerings by hosting sporting events. These efforts have already generated an estimated economic impact of 583.1 million pesos across various regions of the country.

Tourism as a Driver of Shared Prosperity

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that her administration views tourism as a catalyst for shared prosperity, committing to relentless efforts to generate employment and inclusion in all tourism-dependent communities. With over 200 cultural events promoted digitally and a strong focus on social well-being, the National Strategy for Strengthening Magical Towns is emerging as a cornerstone of Mexico’s tourism development.
