Mexico City — Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT) is developing a methodology to measure how much and in what ways taxpayers evade taxes through improper deductions, the agency announced.
The SAT has called on universities across the country to help design a system that detects bad practices that harm public finances. The initiative aims to identify common evasion schemes and close legal loopholes.
Officials said the project will focus on analyzing deduction patterns that are frequently used to reduce tax liability illegally. The agency plans to use the findings to improve audits and enforcement.
The SAT did not provide a timeline for the methodology’s completion but emphasized that the collaboration with academic institutions is part of a broader effort to strengthen tax compliance.
