Mexico City, Mexico — The Mexican government has successfully contained a measles outbreak across most of the country, though localized transmission persists in the state of Chihuahua. According to the Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, approximately 3,500 cumulative cases and 12 deaths have been reported in connection with the disease.

Containment Efforts and Vaccination Campaign

During a press briefing at "La Mañanera" on Tuesday, Kershenobich confirmed that intensive vaccination efforts and a sanitary cordon have significantly reduced the spread of measles in affected regions.

“Fortunately, the containment measures have worked, and the outbreak is now largely confined to Chihuahua,” Kershenobich stated. “Our goal is to eliminate all measles cases by November.”

Federal and state health authorities have implemented enhanced epidemiological surveillance, utilizing PCR testing and advanced diagnostics to confirm cases. Currently, 6 million vaccine doses are available, with additional shipments expected in the coming weeks. The campaign aims to achieve a vaccination coverage rate exceeding 95% nationwide, prioritizing active outbreak zones.

Public Health Mobilization

Health workers have intensified vaccination drives in high-risk areas, deploying specialized personnel to critical regions. Authorities have also urged the public to complete their immunization schedules and visit designated vaccination centers if they have not yet received the required doses.

Kershenobich emphasized that continued coordination between federal and state agencies is essential to further reduce transmission rates and prevent new outbreaks.

The Secretary of Health reiterated the importance of public participation in vaccination efforts to ensure the sustained decline of measles cases in Mexico.
