Mexico City — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum praised Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show as “very interesting,” highlighting its Spanish-language performance and message of continental unity, in contrast to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s criticism of the performance.
Sheinbaum said she found it relevant that the Puerto Rican artist sang in Spanish and conveyed a message of unity across the Americas, including the United States and Canada.
Trump, meanwhile, called Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX performance “one of the worst shows in history,” criticizing the language of the performance and the artist’s dance style.
The discrepancy reflects the public debate about the presence of Latin symbols in a global event, which some view as cultural recognition while others perceive it as controversial.
Bad Bunny’s show, featuring one of the most influential Latin musicians today, included references to Latin heritage in the United States and messages of coexistence, emphasizing that “the only thing more powerful than hate is love.”
Sheinbaum highlighted these values as an antidote to radical positions, underscoring music’s impact as a vehicle for cultural unity.
The show, broadcast to millions of viewers, again placed Latin culture at the center of the international stage, though it generated debates about inclusion, identity, and cultural representation in one of the world’s largest sporting events.
