Havana, Cuba — Two Mexican Navy ships docked in Havana on Thursday, delivering a shipment of humanitarian aid including medical supplies and food to Cuba. The operation, coordinated by Mexico’s Foreign Ministry, represents a significant gesture of solidarity from the Mexican government this year.
The vessels, which began their journey as an emergency deployment from Mexican shores, immediately activated unloading protocols upon arrival to distribute vital supplies to the island’s population. The aid aims to address critical shortages in healthcare and food that Cuban citizens face.
The shipment includes:
- Medical supplies: Medicines and essential medical items to strengthen care in hospitals operating under precarious conditions
- Basic food: Tons of non-perishable products intended to mitigate shortages affecting Cuban families
- Support materials: Strategic resources for stabilizing basic services in the most vulnerable areas
Cuban authorities received the cargo with ceremonies of gratitude, noting that the assistance arrives at an opportune moment to prevent a deepening of social shortages. The arrival occurs during a period of extreme pressure on Cuban infrastructure, providing immediate relief as the island seeks long-term solutions to its internal crises.
The Foreign Ministry has documented the operation step by step, reaffirming Mexico’s position of maintaining an open humanitarian bridge with what it calls the “sister Republic of Cuba.”
