Sisal, Yucatán — Mexican Navy personnel have resumed emergency dredging operations at the port of Sisal, working to keep the harbor safe for fishing boats and other vessels in the region.
The work is part of the “Emergency Dredging at the Port of Sisal” project, which began Nov. 13, 2025, according to the Navy’s Ninth Naval Zone. The project covers a 500-meter stretch of the harbor and involves removing 71,317.77 cubic meters of accumulated sediment.
This week, crews restarted desilting at the harbor entrance, beginning the seventh phase of the operation with the help of a long-reach excavator.
The Navy said the dredging has made significant progress so far, with large volumes of material already extracted from the navigation channel, benefiting fishing and maritime activities in the area.
