Mechanical Failure Sparks Major Car Fire in Cancun Intersection

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A vehicle was completely destroyed by fire Thursday night at the intersection of Kabah and Colosio avenues, prompting a major emergency response and alarming drivers in the area. Despite the dramatic scene, no injuries were reported.

According to the driver, the car began experiencing mechanical issues while traveling on the road moments before the fire broke out. He said the engine lost power, prompting him to pull over to check the situation. However, he soon noticed smoke coming from under the hood.

Within seconds, flames rapidly spread, engulfing the front of the vehicle. The driver immediately exited and moved to safety, calling for help through the 911 emergency number. Witnesses who saw the incident also reported it, allowing authorities to respond quickly.

Firefighters arrived at the scene with equipment to extinguish the blaze. After several minutes of work, they managed to control and put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to other vehicles or posing further risk to the public.

Traffic officers partially closed the intersection to facilitate emergency operations and prevent additional incidents, as thick smoke reduced visibility in the area.

Following a preliminary inspection, firefighters confirmed the car was a total loss due to severe fire damage. Authorities indicated that initial evidence suggests the incident originated from a mechanical failure, though a full investigation will determine the exact cause.

The burned vehicle was eventually removed with the help of a tow truck, and traffic flow was restored in the area. Officials urged drivers to perform regular preventive maintenance on their vehicles to avoid similar incidents.
