In a significant boost to tourism in Quintana Roo, the M/S Resilient Lady cruise ship arrived at the port of Mahahual on Tuesday. This marks the first of Virgin’s cruise ships to dock in the state, with Vagner Elbiorn Vega, general director of the Integral Port Authority of Quintana Roo (APIQROO), welcoming the vessel on behalf of Governor Mara Lezama.

The State Secretariat of Tourism (SEDETUR) director, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, led a symbolic ceremony where plaques were exchanged. This act reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to the touristic and economic development of the area, aligning with the New Era of Tourism initiative driven by Governor Mara Lezama.

During the event, Elbiorn Vega thanked Virgin Cruise Line for their confidence in the Mexican Caribbean as a top-tier destination. He noted that this trust reflects a tourism victory that results in shared prosperity for those working in the sector. “This exchange of plaques symbolizes not only our state’s hospitality but also our commitment to providing an unparalleled experience for all tourists who choose our coasts. Quintana Roo continues to establish itself as a world-class destination through combined efforts from the private sector and the state government,” said Vega.

Bernardo Cueto, the Secretary of Tourism, emphasized the importance of hosting large cruise ships like the Resilient Lady to stimulate the local economy and position Quintana Roo as a leader in the cruise sector, particularly in this New Era of tourism.

The Bahamian-flagged Resilient Lady, which can accommodate 2,770 passengers, is notable for its focus on sustainable tourism and high-quality experiences. The ship welcomed hundreds of visitors eager to explore Mahahual’s rich natural and cultural offerings. This cruise underscores the importance of Quintana Roo’s ports in global travel plans and strengthens commercial relationships between the organization and the cruise sector.

The Resilient Lady will continue its journey to Cozumel, arriving on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from Mahahual. Its final destination is Miami, Florida, with the cruise scheduled to stay in Cozumel at the Punta Langosta terminal until 8:00 pm.
