Officers engaged in a police operation near a building with caution tape visible

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man was severely injured after being shot in front of the restaurant Sabina Tulum, located on Federal Highway 307, between Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The attack occurred near a site that previously served as a State Police base.

Attack Details and Emergency Response

The incident took place at kilometer 50, where witnesses reported multiple gunshots. Preliminary accounts indicate that the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was intercepted and shot by armed assailants just outside the commercial establishment. He collapsed on the pavement with visible gunshot wounds.

Motorists passing through the area alerted emergency services via 911. Municipal Police, National Guard units, and paramedics arrived shortly afterward, providing first aid before transporting the victim to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigation Underway

Forensic teams from the State Attorney General’s Office cordoned off the area to collect ballistic evidence. Traffic on the highway was partially disrupted during the investigation, causing delays in both directions.

Authorities noted that the attack site had once housed a State Police operational base, raising concerns among local residents and business owners about security along the federal highway. No arrests have been made.

The State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the opening of an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the shooting.

Rising Security Concerns

This latest violent incident highlights ongoing security challenges along Tulum’s highway corridors, particularly in areas with limited institutional presence.
