PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX. A person was executed by gunfire on Friday night in the 28 de Julio neighborhood, also known as Nueva Creación, in Playa del Carmen.
The incident occurred on Chunyaxché Street at the corner of Cozumel Avenue, where neighbors alerted emergency services after hearing several gunshots and observing a person lying on the public street.
Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the victim no longer showed vital signs, so they proceeded to cordon off the area.
The area remains guarded while awaiting the arrival of experts from the State Attorney General’s Office, who will handle the body removal and initiate the corresponding investigations.
So far, the motive for the attack has not been disclosed, although preliminary reports indicated that the site has previously been the scene of violent incidents.
