Cancún, Quintana Roo — A court in Quintana Roo has sentenced Julio César de la Fuente Hernández to 50 years in prison for the femicide of a Chinese tourist who was murdered during her vacation in Cancún. The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office presented genetic and technological evidence that directly linked him to the crime.
A Crime That Shocked Cancún
According to an official statement, the incident occurred on May 24, 2022. The victim had booked a tour to Tulum and Cobá. The accused, who was the driver of the tourist vehicle, deviated from the route on the return trip. Her body was later found on Avenida Chetumal, Supermanzana 225, showing signs of violence and sexual assault.
Key Evidence Leading to Conviction
The prosecution highlighted several critical pieces of evidence that secured the conviction:
- The perpetrator’s genetic profile found on the victim’s body
- The victim’s cell phone and passport discovered in his home
- Surveillance footage placing him near the crime scene
- A DNA match between the suspect and biological evidence recovered
Additional Penalties and Reparations
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a fine of 288,660 pesos and ordered the defendant to pay 874,722.20 pesos in reparations to the victim’s family.
The Attorney General’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to justice, particularly in cases of gender-based violence affecting both visitors and residents of the state.
