Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man jumped from the third floor of a building in Cancún after his girlfriend’s husband walked into the home, according to neighbors and video of the incident circulating on social media.

The episode took place at a building in the Cielo Nuevo subdivision, on Avenida Isla Saona at its intersection with Calle Isla Palermo, near the Arco Vial. Residents said they saw a man in black shorts and no shirt hanging from a window before he dropped to the concrete below.

According to neighbors in that part of the city, the man fled the apartment when another man arrived — reportedly the husband of the woman with whom he was involved. His immediate reaction was to climb out of the window, and he ended up falling hard onto the pavement.

Witnesses called the 911 emergency line. Cancún municipal police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly afterward, treated the injured man and took him to the General Hospital “Jesús Kumate Rodríguez.”

Mockery and memes online

The scene, filmed by a resident from street level, spread quickly on social media, drawing jokes and memes. Some commenters suggested the man may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which would explain his behavior, though that account has not been confirmed.

Comments online ranged from jokes about his near escape to remarks about the hazards of romance. An update on the man’s health has yet to be released.
