Man Gunned Down in Broad Daylight in Cozumel’s CTM Neighborhood

Police and forensic investigators at the scene of a shooting in Cozumel's CTM neighborhood

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — A man was shot and killed in broad daylight Wednesday afternoon in the CTM neighborhood of this island resort town, authorities confirmed.

The attack occurred around 5 p.m. on 85th Avenue at 37th Street, directly in front of the victim’s home. Preliminary reports indicate the man, identified unofficially by the alias “Polly,” exited his residence when an armed assailant intercepted him and fired multiple shots, primarily targeting his head.

Neighbors reported hearing gunfire and alerted emergency services through 911 calls. Family members rushed the injured man in a private vehicle to Cozumel General Hospital, but he arrived without vital signs and was pronounced dead shortly after admission.

State police officers and investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) cordoned off the area to collect evidence. Forensic specialists recovered shell casings and other ballistic evidence while prosecutors opened a homicide investigation file.

This killing follows reports of gunfire earlier Wednesday in Cozumel’s 10 de Abril neighborhood, though no injuries were reported in that incident. Authorities have not confirmed any connection between the two events.

The timing has raised concerns among residents as it coincides with Carnival celebrations, when police resources are typically concentrated on event security rather than residential areas.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has not announced any arrests and is withholding further investigative details, though officials said they expect to release more information about the victim’s identity and investigation progress in coming hours.
