Cancun, Quintana Roo — Hotel staff discovered a man dead with his throat slit and signs of violence in a room at the Cedro hotel on Tulum Avenue this afternoon.

The hotel reported the discovery around 3 p.m., prompting police to respond to the location near Mercado 23.

Information gathered at the scene indicates the victim had rented a room with another man earlier in the morning. The other man later left the hotel, telling staff his companion would stay a bit longer.

After the rental period expired, hotel staff entered the room and found the man’s body with his throat slit, showing signs of violence, and wrapped in sheets.

Officials from the State Prosecutor’s Office arrived shortly after to document the scene and begin processing evidence. Investigators are reviewing area security camera footage to identify the man who checked into the hotel with the victim.

Forensic personnel removed the body and transported it to the medical examiner’s office.
