Bacalar, Quintana Roo — A 45-year-old man was found dead early Thursday morning outside a restaurant in Bacalar after what authorities believe was a violent assault.
The body was discovered on Street 1, between 32nd and 34th Streets, near the Bacalar Ecological Bathing Area. Tourists passing through the area spotted the man lying in the street and alerted authorities.
Police officers responded to the scene and confirmed the man showed no signs of life. They cordoned off the area to preserve the scene while beginning their initial investigation.
Unofficial reports indicate the victim was attacked by several individuals who fled in different trucks after the assault. Police conducted patrols in the area to locate the suspects.
Red Cross paramedics who arrived at the scene could only confirm the man’s death. His body showed multiple bruises, suggesting he died from the brutal attack.
The victim was wearing blue jeans, a white checkered shirt, and blue sneakers. Forensic medical personnel later removed the body for transport to their facilities, where an autopsy will be performed.
Preliminary identification lists the deceased with the initials S.N.R., who reportedly worked at a local radio station. The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to clarify what happened and find those responsible.
