Man Held for Dog Cruelty in Cancún Region 237

Cancún, QR — Ministerial Police officers have detained a man accused of committing an act of animal cruelty against a female dog, in an incident that occurred in the area of the sports dome in Region 237, on Prolongación Tulum Avenue, near the Arco Vial.

The incident, categorized as a serious case of animal cruelty, was reported around 11:00 in the morning, when neighbors alerted the 911 emergency number about an individual assaulting a pet in the area of the sports field's bleachers.

According to the complainants, the alleged perpetrator was wearing a black t-shirt and white pants. After receiving the report, agents from the Ministerial Investigation Police, assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Environmental and Wildlife Crimes, went to the scene and deployed a search operation.

Neighbors Report Animal Cruelty Case

According to authorities, the subject attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of the neighbors, who followed him at a distance while maintaining communication with security forces.

Subsequently, the agents located the suspect on nearby streets, where he had changed his clothes to a green t-shirt and blue shorts in an attempt to mislead the officers; however, he was fully identified by the witnesses.

The individual was detained and turned over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, where the Environmental Prosecutor's Office initiated the corresponding investigation file for the crime of animal cruelty, aggravated under the Penal Code of the State of Quintana Roo.

The affected dog was taken into custody by personnel from the Office of the Attorney for Environmental Protection (PPA) and transported to a veterinary center to receive medical attention and an evaluation of her physical and emotional state.

Authorities called on citizens to report any case of animal cruelty, reminding the public that this type of act is considered a serious crime and can lead to criminal penalties. They also urged the population to promote respect and protection for animals as part of social welfare.
