Cancún, Quintana Roo — Security forces arrested a man suspected of drug trafficking and weapons violations during a joint operation in the Villas Otoch Paraíso neighborhood on Tuesday.
The arrest resulted from coordination between the Citizen Security Department’s Investigation Group, the Mexican Navy, and the Mexican Army.
According to official reports, officers observed two men exchanging small plastic bags containing green plant material resembling marijuana in the parking lot of superblock 259. When police approached, one suspect fled between buildings while the other remained at the scene.
During a search of the detained individual, authorities seized 62 ziploc bags containing suspected marijuana, a .380 caliber handgun with a magazine and 13 rounds of ammunition, a cell phone, and a camouflage vest.
Police identified the suspect as Ulgaris “N,” who faces charges related to drug offenses and violations of Mexico’s Federal Firearms and Explosives Law.
Authorities turned the suspect and evidence over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking, which will determine his legal status.
The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts in Benito Juárez municipality aimed at combating drug-related crimes in residential areas.
