Tulum, Quintana Roo — A young man suffered severe head injuries after being attacked with a machete in the Yokolkin neighborhood, prompting a rapid emergency response and investigation by local authorities.
The incident occurred on Géminis Street, where residents called for help after finding the victim with a deep head wound and heavy bleeding. Witnesses reported that the man had been drinking alcohol with others when an argument escalated into a physical altercation that ended with the machete assault.
Private paramedics arrived at the scene, provided first aid, and stabilized the injured man before urgently transporting him to a hospital in Playa del Carmen due to the severity of the cranial injury.
The suspected attacker fled before police officers arrived. Authorities launched an operation in the area but have not yet made an arrest or identified the suspect. The State Prosecutor’s Office visited the site to collect witness statements and evidence to open an investigation file.
Residents of Yokolkin have previously complained about lack of police presence and increasing conflicts related to alcohol consumption, which have created an atmosphere of insecurity in the neighborhood. This latest violent episode highlights the vulnerability of informal settlements in Tulum, where personal disputes can quickly escalate into serious assaults.
The young man’s condition is reported as critical, pending an official medical update on his prognosis.
