TULUM — Residents across the Maya Zone of Tulum municipality and neighboring areas of Yucatán state reported hearing a loud, explosive bang that generated surprise and confusion, with no official explanation yet provided for the sound's origin.

According to posts circulating on social media, the loud noise was felt in different parts of the peninsula on Friday night, prompting dozens of users to share comments and testimonies in regional groups and news pages.

In one of the forums where user reactions were concentrated, several people reported hearing a sound similar to an explosion or a loud bang coming from the sky. Some comments indicated that the noise was intense enough to make windows vibrate or cause momentary concern among residents in their homes.

Residents of communities near the Maya Zone reported that the noise was sudden and that no visible explosions or subsequent incidents on the ground were recorded. In some cases, people stated that the sound was brief but very powerful, leading to speculation about its possible origin.

There were also similar reports from towns in the state of Yucatán, where residents commented on social media that they heard a "very loud" noise, described by some as similar to an explosion or an object crossing the sky at high speed.

In the absence of official information, various hypotheses emerged on social media among users, ranging from the possible passage of a high-speed aircraft to unusual atmospheric phenomena. Experts point out that phenomena known as "skyquakes"—rumbling sounds that seem to originate from the sky and whose source cannot always be clearly determined—have been recorded in some regions of the world.

So far, civil protection authorities or federal agencies have not issued a statement confirming the cause of the loud noise reported by residents of the region.

The event sparked intense conversation on social media, where residents of different communities agreed that they had heard the same noise, suggesting that the phenomenon could be perceived across a wide area of the Yucatan Peninsula.
