Cancún, Quintana Roo — Lifeguards from Cancún’s Civil Protection rescued two people at Playa Delfines on Wednesday after spotting them calling for help while swimming offshore.
Mayor Ana Paty Peralta announced that lifeguards immediately activated rescue protocols when they observed the swimmers in distress. The team successfully brought both individuals to safety, where they were found to be only showing signs of exhaustion and did not require hospital transport.
“My recognition to our lifeguards, who are attentive every day to protect the lives of those who enjoy our beaches,” Peralta said.
Authorities reminded beachgoers to respect safety instructions, particularly the meaning of warning flags. A red flag indicates swimming is prohibited due to dangerous currents or wave conditions.
The Civil Protection Department had warned since morning about hazardous swimming conditions at several Cancún beaches. According to official reports, Playa Delfines displayed red flags across all zones, while other beaches including Ballenas, Marlín, Chac-Mool, and Gaviota also had restrictions due to sea conditions.
Officials reiterated calls for tourists and residents to follow lifeguard recommendations to prevent incidents and safely enjoy the Mexican Caribbean beaches.
