Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man was shot and killed just before midnight on Tuesday in Tulum, marking another violent incident in the popular tourist destination as concerns grow over security.
According to preliminary reports, the attack occurred minutes before midnight in the Aldea Tulum neighborhood, at the intersection of Ágata Avenue and Perla Street. Residents alerted emergency services after hearing gunshots and finding a man with serious injuries.
Paramedics arrived to provide medical attention, but the victim later died from gunshot wounds.
The shooting comes amid increasing public concern over a rise in violent incidents in Tulum since the start of the current municipal administration led by Mayor Diego Castañón. International media have noted that security issues not only affect public perception but also the tourism-driven economy.
Authorities have not announced any arrests or a possible motive for the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.
