Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Authorities located a kidnapped state investigator alive early Sunday morning after launching a major air and ground search operation across the city and surrounding areas.
The investigator, identified as Oscar G.C., 30, works with the homicide unit in Playa del Carmen as part of the northern zone of the State Prosecutor’s Office. Armed men intercepted him Saturday afternoon on Calzada del Centenario in the Santa María neighborhood as he was leaving a commercial establishment and getting into his personal vehicle.
After confirming the victim was an active member of the investigative police, authorities immediately activated emergency protocols. They set up vehicle checkpoints at Chetumal’s main exits and deployed the “Águila 1” helicopter, which flew at low altitude for hours using powerful spotlights to scan specific areas.
The aerial search focused on the communities of Luis Echeverría, Raudales, Laguna Guerrero, and the neighborhoods of Calderitas, Pacto Obrero, Las Américas, and El Caribe.
Internal sources at the prosecutor’s office said surveillance cameras and intelligence work helped narrow the search area where the kidnappers had allegedly taken the victim.
Officials confirmed they found the investigator shortly after midnight. Unofficial reports indicated Oscar G.C. showed signs of physical assault and was in a state of nervous distress, though the severity was not specified. Red Cross paramedics transported him to a clinic under a heavy security detail involving local, state, and federal forces.
The State Prosecutor’s Office did not issue an official public missing person alert, though sources said the investigation file opened immediately after the initial report. Authorities have not disclosed the exact location where they found the investigator.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, officials have not confirmed whether the attack is directly related to the agent’s duties or stems from other lines of inquiry.
