Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A worker specializing in jewelry making sustained severe injuries to two fingers after being caught in an industrial laminator during a workplace accident on Tuesday afternoon at a jewelry store located along the federal highway between Puerto Aventuras and Akumal.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 1:00 PM while the goldsmith was laminating a gold wire. During the operation, the machine accidentally pulled her hand, causing two fingers to become trapped between the equipment’s rollers.
Although the laminator was stopped almost immediately, the worker’s hand remained pinned, requiring intervention from the Fire Department, who performed specialized maneuvers to free the fingers without worsening the injuries.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene provided initial care to the woman, who was subsequently transported to a hospital for specialized medical attention due to the risk of partial amputation.
Meanwhile, Civil Protection personnel remained at the establishment to carry out corresponding procedures, including a review of safety conditions, operational protocols, and business documentation, aiming to rule out irregularities and prevent future accidents.
The worker’s health condition is reported as guarded while the evolution of the injuries to the affected fingers is being evaluated. (Agencia SIM)
