Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres is set to host the inaugural "Isla Open 2025" tennis tournament from June 27 to 29, aiming to foster sports participation in dignified spaces and encourage healthy family bonding.
Revitalized Sports Infrastructure
The tournament will take place at the tennis court in the Salina Chica neighborhood, a facility recently restored and rehabilitated by the current administration. Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde has emphasized her commitment to reclaiming public spaces for sports and recreational activities.
Tournament Schedule and Format
Matches will be held in morning and afternoon sessions across all three days. On Friday, June 27, games will run from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 28, with matches continuing until evening.
The semifinals will begin at 8:30 AM on Sunday, June 29, followed by the third-place match at 4:00 PM and the championship final from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A closing awards ceremony will conclude the event.
Encouraging Community Engagement
Fernando Bacelis Godoy, Director of Municipal Sports, highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting well-being and athletic development. "This event provides inspiration for children, youth, and adults to hone their skills and reinforce positive values," he said.
Players from Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and Benito Juárez are expected to compete alongside local participants. Registrations are open at the Salina Chica Sports Office, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The tournament welcomes all skill levels and age categories.
The initiative underscores the administration’s broader efforts to enhance sports infrastructure and community engagement in Isla Mujeres.
