Isla Mujeres Opens Registration for 21st International Fishing Tournament with $900,000 Prize Pool

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Registration is now open for the 21st International Fishing Tournament “Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña,” one of the most significant sporting and tourism events in Isla Mujeres, scheduled for May 22-24 with expected participation from national and international competitors.

According to the municipal government, through the General Directorate of Economic Development and Tourism, the tournament is part of the municipal strategy to strengthen sports tourism and position the destination as a reference point in the Mexican Caribbean, attracting visitors who generate significant economic spillover for the island.

The director of the area, Eyder Jahil Hoth Pérez, stated that this competition not only boosts tourism activity but also promotes family gatherings and healthy competition, solidifying itself as a tradition that annually brings together sport fishermen and sea enthusiasts.

For this edition, the tournament will feature a prize pool exceeding 900,000 pesos, with 360,000 pesos for first place, 240,000 pesos for second, and 135,000 pesos for third, plus incentives for subsequent positions, making it one of the most attractive in the region.

The activity program will begin on Friday, May 22 with the traditional Captains’ Dinner, while fishing sessions will take place on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, concluding with the awards ceremony at Playa Centro.

Authorities reiterated the invitation for interested participants to take advantage of the ongoing registration process and join this event that combines sport, tourism, and international promotion for Isla Mujeres.
