Isla Mujeres, Mexico — Isla Mujares Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde inaugurated the “Lines for Life” sewing workshop at the Casa del Adulto Mayor (Elderly Care Center) in the Zona Continental district. The initiative, coordinated through the municipal DIF (Integrated Family Development System), aims to provide seniors with opportunities for personal growth, social interaction, and skill development in a supportive environment.

A Commitment to Social Welfare

Mayor Gómez emphasized the workshop’s role in fostering community ties and empowerment. “We continue transforming Isla Mujeres with love and social justice. This workshop doesn’t just teach sewing—it sows hope, strengthens community bonds, and creates new opportunities for our elderly residents,” she stated during the inauguration.

The event was attended by Leticia Suriano Enríquez, DIF representative for Zona Continental, and Fabiola Vicencio Jiménez, General Director of the municipal DIF. Gómez reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to inclusive social programs, stating, “We work daily to ensure no one is left behind. Social initiatives remain a priority in our municipal transformation.”

Collaboration with Local Tourism Sector

The workshop was made possible through a donation of two sewing machines by the Palladium Hotel Group’s volunteer program, “Lines for Life.” Gómez acknowledged the contribution, noting, “It’s heartening to see tourism benefits translate into shared prosperity and well-being for all.”

Attendees toured the new sewing space, where seniors demonstrated their initial projects. The initiative underscores the local government’s focus on intergenerational dignity and collaborative community development.
