Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government has established a new tourism committee aimed at strengthening Isla Mujeres’ position as a leading Caribbean destination. The Magic Towns Committee held its inaugural session to coordinate strategies between government, private sector, and civil society.
Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde led the meeting, emphasizing the goal of aligning efforts across government levels to enhance urban image, improve service quality, and diversify tourism offerings. The committee’s work focuses on local identity and direct benefits for island families.
Key initiatives presented include a new Diving Guide designed to attract adventure tourism and plans for a Gastronomic Guide centered on preserving traditional island cuisine. Officials also reviewed progress on the national “Magic Color Routes” program, which uses artistic interventions and maintenance to beautify urban areas.
The committee unveiled the 2026 promotion plan for Mexico’s Magic Towns Program. Mayor Gómez Ricalde stressed that constant coordination will help Isla Mujeres and Costa Mujeres maintain their leadership in hotel occupancy within Quintana Roo.
“We will continue working with vision and planning so Isla Mujeres remains a world-class destination,” the mayor said, highlighting that unity between sectors forms the foundation for consolidating the municipality’s current tourism success.
