The 32nd edition of the "Sun to Sun" regatta is set to kick off on Friday, April 26th from Pensacola Bay. The competitors are expected to start arriving at the Isla Mujeres Yacht Club from the following day. This biennial event is organized by the Southern Yacht Club, Pensacola Yacht Club, and the Isla Mujeres Yacht Club. The race begins in St. Petersburg, Florida, and over the next few days, the sailboats will traverse the Gulf of Mexico, from Pensacola, Florida to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, powered solely by the wind.

Any use of the boat's engine will result in immediate disqualification. Organizers anticipate the first competing sailboats to start arriving from Sunday, with the rest of the vessels arriving gradually until May 2nd. Enrique Lima Zuno, President of the Isla Mujeres Yacht Club, explains that while they expect to receive the relatives of the competitors from Saturday, the first sailboats could start arriving on Sunday, weather permitting.

However, arrival times may vary depending on the southeast winds, which may not be favorable for the sailboats traveling through the Gulf of Mexico. Upon arrival in Isla Mujeres, the competitors will have a few days of leisure until May 2nd, the expected arrival date of the last boats participating in the regatta. A Captains' Cup will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at Casa de las Rocas, featuring a simple ceremony honoring the yacht captains, authorities, and commodores. At 7:00 pm, a traditional basketball tournament between the sailboat crew members and Isla Mujeres veterans will take place at the "José del Carmen Pastrana" court.

A farewell cocktail for the sailors and guests will be held on Thursday, May 2nd. On the same day, an Extraordinary Session of the Council will be held at 7:00 pm to declare the regatta participants as "Distinguished Guests."

On Friday, May 3rd, the children of Isla Mujeres will participate in the 51st edition of the "Friends" regatta, a competition around the island. Later that day, at 6:00 pm, trophies will be awarded to the winners. After enjoying their final dinner on Isla Mujeres, the champions of the "Sun to Sun" and "Friends" regattas will be formally presented with their trophies.
