Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Isla Mujeres City Council has unveiled the official program for the 176th anniversary of the municipality’s founding, featuring a mix of cultural, sports, gastronomic, artistic, and traditional events running from late July through August.
According to information presented at a press conference, the festivities will begin on July 24 with the coronation of the Foundation Festival Ambassador and continue with a schedule designed for both residents and visitors.
Highlights include the photography exhibition “Light Through Time,” the traditional vaquería and descent of the Virgin, the Ceviche Contest, the “Furia del Caribe” lucha libre show, the Isleño Cocktail Contest, performances by regional groups, the early morning serenade to the Virgin, and a musical performance by Nelson Kanzela.
An artisan fair featuring La Casetera will also take place, along with the traditional “Mi Son” Isleño Night, a solemn session marking the municipality’s founding anniversary, and activities related to International Whale Shark Day.
Representatives from the Culture, Sports, Public Relations, and Economic Development and Tourism departments participated in the announcement, detailing part of the programming for this annual celebration.
The Foundation Festival is part of the commemorative events held each year in Isla Mujeres to honor the municipality’s historical origins and promote the cultural, gastronomic, and traditional expressions of the island community.
