Tulum, Quintana Roo — Amid ongoing investigations and conflicts over adherence to public service values, the Tulum Municipal Government, led by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, has initiated a series of changes within its cabinet to address administrative irregularities. The announcement was made by Councilman Eugenio Barbachano Losa, president of the Anti-Corruption, Transportation, and Citizen Participation Commission.

Key Officials Removed

Barbachano Losa confirmed that among the officials being removed are Lorenzo Miranda, Director General of Urban Development; Carla Andrade, head of the General Directorate of Tourism; and María Fernanda Schreder, responsible for Public Relations, along with other mid- and lower-level public servants.

“Far from complying with the mayor’s directives or the principles of Morena, these officials acted in direct opposition, doing so openly. They were given the opportunity to work as supporters of the administration but ended up benefiting personally,” Barbachano Losa stated.

Alleged Irregularities

Among the most serious cases cited is the “fast-track” approval of over 5,000 housing units signed by Lorenzo Miranda on a plot of land under legal dispute, allegedly stolen from citizen Cayetano Colín. The councilman claimed this was carried out in collusion with former state officials from the previous Joaquinista administration, including Layla Flores, former director of the Public Property Registry.

Another prominent example involves the “Maiim” condominium, recently shut down by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) and slated for demolition. The project reportedly received direct benefits from Miranda’s Urban Development office.

Administrative Renewal Underway

In response to these findings, Barbachano Losa affirmed that the municipal government has launched an administrative renewal process aimed at restoring public trust through concrete actions and effective accountability.

“These changes are necessary and reflect an absolute commitment to legality and the well-being of Tulum’s residents,” he concluded.
