State authorities are investigating the murder of a man who was shot in his car early Thursday morning in the Gran Santa Fe neighborhood of Cancún. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Eduardo “M”, was originally from Yucatán but resided in Cancún.
The incident took place around 9:00 am on 127th Avenue in SM 316. Eduardo was driving when an unidentified man on a motorcycle began firing at his car. He was hit by six bullets and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
At the time of the shooting, Eduardo was on his way to his accounting office. Investigators found at least nine spent bullet casings at the scene.
Raciel Salazar, the head of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo, was present at the crime scene. It is unclear why he was there, but he confirmed that the victim was an accountant. Salazar stated that there is no concrete line of investigation yet, as they are still in the process of gathering information.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the FGE announced the opening of an investigation into the attack. The statement read, "The event occurred when the victim, a professional whose identity is being withheld, was in his car and was injured by a firearm projectile fired by a subject traveling on a motorcycle."
The Attorney General of the Republic, in collaboration with the Coordination for the Construction of Peace and Security of Quintana Roo, is actively working to solve this case and find the person or persons responsible.
