Just weeks before his Senate inauguration, Eugenio Segura Vázquez revealed plans for a tender to be issued for a company to oversee the maintenance of the Cancun hotel zone and the Cozumel Marina.
Eugenio Segura Vázquez, the Secretary of Finance and Planning (Sefiplan) and soon-to-be Senator for Quintana Roo, explained that the company Engintra will be responsible for the upkeep of the Cancun hotel zone and the Cozumel Marina. A significant investment is planned for the development of programs and new infrastructure in these tourist areas. This follows the federal government's decision to dissolve Fonatur, leading to the establishment of the Trust for the Strengthening of Tourism Activity in Quintana Roo (Foatqroo). This trust will now manage the tasks previously handled by Fonatur in Cancun, such as paving.
Starting in 2025, an annual investment of over 250 million pesos is projected for the Cancun hotel zone. Engintra will handle the long-term maintenance, under the supervision of the trust. Importantly, no new taxes are planned to fund this investment. All funds are expected to be allocated directly to the specified projects.
