Cancún, Mexico — Authorities have detained a man identified as Eder Alexis "N" for allegedly assaulting a foreign tourist at Cancún International Airport and for possession of narcotics. The arrest was made by the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office following the circulation of a video on social media showing the suspect physically confronting a female tourist while attempting to prevent her from boarding a ride-hailing service vehicle.
Incident Details and Arrest
The detained individual reportedly worked for a private taxi company operating at Terminal 3 of the airport. His role involved ensuring that app-based transportation services, such as Uber, did not pick up passengers at the terminal, thereby restricting service to authorized taxi providers.
During the arrest, Eder Alexis "N" was found in possession of small quantities of a green, dry herb resembling marijuana, as well as packets containing a substance suspected to be crystal meth. Following standard legal procedures, he was handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which will determine his legal status within the constitutional timeframe.
Authorities' Response
The State Attorney General's Office emphasized its commitment to zero impunity, stating that the arrest reflects its dedication to prosecuting individuals who violate the law, regardless of their affiliations.
The case has drawn attention to ongoing tensions between traditional taxi services and ride-hailing platforms in the region, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas like Cancún International Airport.
