Mexico City — The National Institute for Older Persons (INAPAM) offers various benefits and support for Mexicans aged 60 and over, but it does not provide a year-end bonus, known as an aguinaldo, directly as an economic support. However, the institute can facilitate access to one through its Productive Linkage program, which assists individuals in re-entering the formal labor market.
The right to receive an aguinaldo applies to older adults who are part of this program. When hired through this initiative, participants are entitled to all legally mandated benefits, including a year-end bonus, whether they have worked for a full year or for a specific period in the position they fill.
What is the Productive Linkage for Older Adults?
The Productive Linkage program from INAPAM seeks to promote employment for older adults according to their skills within the business sector. The program recognizes their experience and provides them with:
- A base salary
- Legally mandated benefits (including the aguinaldo)
- A contract for a work schedule
- Benefits exceeding the legal minimum
Requirements to Participate in Productive Linkage
INAPAM has specified clear and precise requirements for those who wish to form part of this process and access the benefits that a formal job provides:
- Be 60 years of age or older
- Possess an INAPAM credential
- Have an official photo identification
How to Register
The linkage process is straightforward. Interested individuals must complete the following steps:
- Fill out a social inclusion application form.
- Have an interview with a Productive Linkage promoter.
- Choose an offer for a productive or voluntary activity that is of interest.
- Conduct interviews with the prospective company or companies.
To begin the process, individuals must attend the INAPAM Productive Linkage modules in person, which are located throughout the country. The service hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A complete list of locations, organized by state, is available for consultation on the official government website.
